Know thyself
Before you begin looking for someone to spend the rest of your life with, it’s important that you’re actually ready to find that person. That’s why it’s so important to get to know yourself. Spend time alone. Consider what it is you’re looking for in a relationship. Make a list of the traits your perfect match would have, and highlight the top two or three that are completely non-negotiable. Be willing to compromise. Think about what you bring to the table and your own strengths and weaknesses.
Maximise your chances
You’re unlikely to meet the love of your life while you’re sitting on the couch watching Rachel Ray in your pajamas. That’s why it’s important that you’re making an effort to “get out there” and meet people from all walks of life. Go on a singles cruise holiday. Ask your friends if they know anyone they could set you up on a blind date with. Try a new sport or hobby and make an effort to get to know everyone you can.

How often have you heard someone say something like “all the good men are married or gay?” When you think these thoughts, you create a self-fulfilling prophecy, and make it even less likely that you’ll be open to meeting ‘the one.’ If you believe that meeting people is easy and fun, you’ll find that you begin to naturally attract these types of people as well. If you’re not meeting them, it may be because you’ve created self-limiting beliefs around what is available.
