10 Must-see Places in New York

Undoubtedly New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world. It is hard to explore The Big Apple in just a couple of days but you can find huge discounts for New York city breaks and since the city never sleeps there is plenty to do in a short period of time.

 

There are at least ten must-see places in New York if you have limited time in the city and especially if you are a first timer.


Times Square

Every great city has one square that must be seen. In New York this is of course Times Square. Bright lights, huge digital billboards, people taking pictures – the square is really impressive. Times Square is often called “The Center of the World” and when you are so close to the Center of the world, don’t pass by.

Central Park

If you think Times Square is a start that is too harsh for your city break, try Central Park. It will be a gentler introduction to NYC. Central park is on 843 acres of city-owned land and offers amazing views, interesting flora and hidden treasures. Exploring the park on a bike is a good idea.

Skyline

New York City skyline is not to be missed. You just have to find a place high enough to observe the iconic bridges, skyscrapers, monuments and islands. One such place with a great view is Empire State Building. Take the elevator to the 86th floor and admire the city below.

Statue of Liberty

The Neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island is the iconic symbol and most recognizable landmark of New York. If you don’t plan to buy a ticket and go to the monument itself, there are plenty of good places to observe the Statue of Liberty. Taking the Staten Island Ferry and passing by the monument is a great idea.

Lower Manhattan

Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island and is full of history and interesting places to visit. This is where the Dutch established the first European settlements. This is where the former World Trade Center was before the September 11 attacks. From here you can move to the next must-see place – Brooklyn Bridge.

Brooklyn Bridge

This is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. It was the masterpiece of John Roebling connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. By the time of its completion in 1883 until 1903 Brooklyn Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world and still is one of the most recognizable landmarks of New York.

Bronx Zoo

Bronx Zoo is one of the largest metropolitan zoos in the world and the largest urban wildlife preserve in the United States. It comprises 265 acres of park lands with more than 4000 animals. You can see lions, zebras, snakes, monkeys, giraffes and even animals that you have never heard of.

 

Coney Island

Coney Island is a peninsula and if you love the beach, this is the place for you. Here tourists can enjoy the famous Cyclone roller coaster and some other attractions like the Wonder Wheel, Luna Park and many more. This is the home of the New York Aquarium.

Yankee Stadium

The original Yankee Stadium is a must-see place for all sport fans but not only. The stadium was opened in 1923 and was home of the Yankees until 2008. There are guided tours and a New York Yankees Museum.

Broadway

This is the most famous theatre district in the world. Since there are 40 professional theatres in Broadway everyone can find something interesting. Even if you don’t have tickets for a show, take a walk and feel the spirit of art.
